چکیده

Eucalyptus globulus Labill. is a widespread exotic species that contributes to the formation of fire-prone environments, great concern under climate change conditions. Therefore, sustainable practices help locals managing eucalyptus stands are needed. In this perspective, harnessing eucalyptus’ specialized metabolism as source allelochemicals can be promising approach for weed control. Thus, main goals work were evaluate herbicidal potential post-fire regenerated E. leaves against Portulaca oleracea L. and unravel physiological mechanisms behind phytotoxic action. For this, aqueous extracts fresh (FLE; 617 g FW L?1) or oven-dried (DLE; 250 DW foliar-sprayed at different dilutions in purslane seedlings. After five weeks, results revealed DLE highest dose detained greatest activity, affecting growth cellular viability. Moreover, biochemical data pointed towards an overproduction reactive oxygen species, causing harsh oxidative damage roots, where upregulation important players, like sugars, amino acids, proline, was not able reestablish redox homeostasis. Overall, study proved dried from young had potent properties P. represent feasible strategy management.

Antifilarial Activity of Eucalyptus globulus Labill. Leaves Against Brugia malayi

The present study is aimed to evaluate the antifilarial activity of Eucalyptus globules Labill. (Myrtaceae) against human lymphatic filarial parasite Brugia malayi in vitro and in vivo. The ethanolic extract of the leaves was tested in vitro on adult worms and microfilariae (mf) of B. malayi and the active sample was further evaluated in vivo in B. malayi intraperitoneally (i.p.) transplanted i...

Unravelling the bioherbicide potential of Eucalyptus globulus Labill: Biochemistry and effects of its aqueous extract

In the worldwide search for new strategies in sustainable weed management, the use of plant species able to produce and release phytotoxic compounds into the environment could be an effective alternative to synthetic herbicides. Eucalyptus globulus Labill. is known to be a source of biologically active compounds responsible for its phytotoxic and allelopathic properties. Our previous results de...

The geometry of light capture in plantation Eucalyptus globulus labill

The nature and spatial distribution of leaf area, especially leaf size, density and orientation, strongly regulates light harvesting as well as the exchange of carbon and water between plants and atmosphere (Pearcy and Yang 1996). The occupation of three-dimensional space and the characteristics of branches on which leaves are arranged, combine to generate wide variations in shoot, branch and t...

Isolation and characterization of lignins from Eucalyptus grandis Hill ex Maiden and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. by enzymatic mild acidolysis (EMAL)

Despite the growing importance of Eucalyptus wood as raw material for pulp and paper, there is a lack of knowledge on the chemistry of their macromolecular components. The present paper addresses this issue by applying the recently developed protocol for isolating enzymatic mild acidolysis lignins (EMAL) from Eucalyptus grandis, Eucalyptus globulus and the softwood species Douglas fir and white...
